How long can a pantry stay organized, you ask? Well, this is a question I ask myself often. I have come up with a few ideas to keep this area in order. I do realize that I’m fortunate to have a walk-in pantry, but I wonder if a larger pantry is harder to keep organized?
Around these parts, I seem to be the only one bothered by said chaos, so I’ve resolved myself to these two conclusions: a) they don’t even see that it’s in total disarray, or b) they see it yet they think nothing of it. Regardless, I ended up organizing that pantry today. Again. And I walked away with some pretty good ideas that, fingers crossed, will keep this little room in order and organized.
I started with the floor. The take-out container bin had overflowed and there were random lids and containers spewed about. All I had to do there, was give them a quick wash and dry, then stack them by size. That’s the thing with these containers – it takes time to put them away, with the stacking by size and all, but if put away like this, then you’ve won half the battle.
Then I looked over at the onions and potatoes. Their bins were taking up a lot of room, and we don’t even have potatoes on hand that often. Here, I decided get wire bins, like these, and hang them on the wall. Worked like a charm, and opened up a large area for bulky items.
Clearly, we have a thing for crackers. When I started organizing today, I had no idea that we had such the cracker inventory. But we do, and they are now all grouped together on that shelf that once housed the potatoes.
How Long Can A Pantry Stay Organized?
I’ve shared with y’all before that we like our condiments. Because really, shouldn’t every house have 6 or 7 different mustards?? I grouped all of the condiments in one section together. This way, it’s easier to see what’s on hand, and hopefully easier for others to put away when unpacking from the grocery store. The canned goods are right above where they’ve always been kept.
I like to keep the pasta in glass jars, the main reason being is because pasta just stores better this way. A half opened box or bag of pasta never stays put, and ultimately spills. Another reason is in the slim case that an unwanted pest sniffs around, the pasta is safe in glass. It keeps better, too.
In fact, I store most of my baking supplies in glass jars as well. Keeps everything fresher, longer, and I just plain like how it looks. Nothing wrong with that. Tupperware storage is also a good friend of mine, and is proving to last the true test of time.
On the other wall, the herbs, spices, oils and vinegars all pretty must stay as is because honestly, I’m the only one that uses them. For the most part.
I’m not sure how long the pantry will stay organized, but with grouping everything in categories, and making space by hanging the onions and potatoes, here’s hoping this pantry will stay organized for a while.
See you next week..
