Keeping Fed – February ’21

When you think of the yearly calendar, how to do visualize it in your head? Do you picture the months like a clock where December is at the 12, January is at the 1, etc? Do you picture the calendar as pages that you flip? A line graph, maybe? For me, I picture the yearly calendar like a clock, but my clock goes counterclockwise. Who knows why, but in my mind February is at the 10, and that means March is at the 9, and we’re that much closer to spring.

In many ways, I’m glad that February is a short month, get it over with, you know. It’s the one time of the year where I don’t mind rushing the season. However in this short month, we managed to conquer a few projects around here that were on the list to accomplish this year. Check and check.

This past month we also had one feathered farm animal living inside for a few days. Our beloved hen, Peg, has two bum legs. One has been out of business for almost two years, and the other finally gave in to the stress of working alone, and gave out too. Although everything else involved with Peg seems to be working status quo, no working legs meant she can’t get around, natch. We had a few consecutive nights of frigid, so I took pity on Peg and brought her inside. I set her up in a large old drawer lined with hay, positioned her in front of the window, gave her some food and water and tuned in come classical music. I even gave her a bath.

Still, she reeked and is now back outside with the others, and we check on her frequently, making sure she’s comfortable.

While peg was chilling out to classical, we managed to complete two big room makeovers, where the common denominator was a sink; the tool room and the laundry room makeover. Both before and afters are quite impressive, and I’m just so grateful that they’re done. Everything is wicked organized, and I actually really enjoyed the super tedious task in the tool room, of organizing each screw, one by one. In both transformed rooms, the transformed sinks are the star of the show.

You know what happens in March? St. Patrick’s Day, and we celebrate around here. Of course we do with our last name being Fedigan and all. I’ll be getting started on these corned beef hot dogs; I’ll make these Guinness Stout cupcakes, and of course, we’ll be drinking a black and tan, or two.
